Growth Systems Engineering
Evergreen
There is another way to pay for engineering: not a bill after a build, but one custom-quoted monthly retainer that keeps your systems alive — always living, always working, always ready.
Most engineering is bought like construction. A scope is approved, a number is agreed, the work is built, an invoice arrives, and everyone shakes hands. It is an honest way to buy — and the day it closes, the system starts aging.
Not because anyone failed. A business system is simply not a building. APIs shift underneath it. Platforms release, deprecate, and rename. The business grows a location, a service line, a second booking calendar. The report that was perfect in March is missing a column by September. Nothing broke — the world kept moving, and the system didn’t.
Evergreen is the other way to pay. No lump sum, no invoice arriving like weather. One custom quote, one flat monthly retainer — and the system never stops being tended.
Always living. Always working. Always ready.
Five tiers, one trunk
The tree is the model, not a decoration. Each tier is a layer of ongoing work; the trunk is the retainer that feeds all five. Read it from the ground up.
-
Tier 01
Monitor
The root tier. Dashboards watched, alerts wired, data flows verified — so problems are found by an engineer, not by your front desk on a Saturday.
-
Tier 02
Maintain
Patches, API version changes, credential rotations, fixes shipped before you feel them. The unglamorous work that keeps everything standing.
-
Tier 03
Optimize
What exists gets steadily better: automations tightened, reports sharpened, costs and manual steps engineered out a little more each month.
-
Tier 04
Extend
The system grows with the business. New integrations, new automations, new capability — added as ordinary monthly work, not as a new project with a new bill.
-
Tier 05
Advise
The crown. A standing engineer who already knows your architecture: priorities weighed, the roadmap kept current, and a real answer when you ask “could we…?”
Two honest ways to pay
Evergreen does not replace project work — it is what protects it. Both models are quoted custom; neither carries published pricing. The difference is what the money buys.
The project way
A defined build with a beginning and an end. You approve a scope, we engineer it, it ships to production, and the invoice closes it. Right for assessments, defined builds, and multi‑phase transformations — and it is how most engagements begin.
The evergreen way
The same senior engineering, applied continuously. One custom quote, one flat monthly retainer, no surprise invoices — and every tier of the tree tended, so the system you paid for stays the system you meant to buy.
How Evergreen is quoted
- Quoted
- Custom, against your actual architecture — platforms, volumes, ambitions. There is no menu of plans, because no two systems are the same tree.
- Billed
- Monthly, flat. The number you agreed to is the number that arrives. Budgeting a living system should be the least dramatic line in your ledger.
- Scoped
- A standing rhythm of monitoring and maintenance, plus a monthly allocation of engineering attention directed where it matters most that month — optimization, extension, or counsel.
- Ended
- Whenever you choose. Evergreen is a retainer, not a lock‑in; it has to earn its renewal every month, and everything built remains yours.
Most Evergreen engagements begin when a project ships and neither side wants it to start aging. Some begin with a systems assessment. Either way, the first step is the same conversation.
